I decide to call his bluff and go for the door once all of my bags are hanging on me again. It’s a single palm slamming onto the door above my head that stops me. He doesn’t even have to touch me to keep me from leaving this room and that infuriates me beyond belief.

“Why are you doing this?” I exhale and look down at the doorknob, before turning and banging us both up with these fucking bags.

“There’s just certain things we can’t look away from and you’re now a loose end that needs tied up.” He hasn’t moved at all. We’re both staring into each other’s eyes with the ‘I dare you to fucking try it’ glare, waiting for the other to blink or show a sign of weakness, so we can get on with this impending knock-out-drag-out fight that’s bound to freaking happen.

“There’s not any loose ends here. I’m not an idiot, Ruin. Don’t treat me like one. I know that ‘I didn’t see a fucking thing’ is the only way to react to tonight. I’m leaving town and you’ll never see me again, so you and your buddies are safe.”

  “That’s not how it works.”

“So, enlighten me. Tell me how it works.” I drop my bags and stomp to the other side of the room, putting as much space as I can between us. “What? I need to die now? A slow torturous death where you try to drag out what I know? You have to tie me up and take me back to the club where all the guys take turns fucking me while the others stand guard with all those fucking weapons…” He rushes me, slapping his palm over my mouth to shut me up just as my back hits the wall.

“Stop. That’s not who we are. That’s not who I am. Do you really take me for a guy who has to rape to get pussy? Give me more fucking credit.” I pry his hand off my mouth and refrain from racking him, even though the thought definitely crossed my mind.

“Then who are you?” My own whisper sounded foreign to my ears. Evil and resentful.

“Just a club that keeps everyone safe around here.”

“It didn’t seem like you were in the business of keeping people safe tonight.”

“You have no idea.” He pushes off of me and starts pacing the room. “Those guys are the kind who would take a girl and do exactly what you just said. They’re bad fucking news and the world is a better place without them in it.”

“Is that what you tell yourself every time you pull the trigger?” I know I’m poking the monster, but if this is what we’re here to do then let’s do it.

“Yes, it is.” Matter of fact… just like that. He has no regrets.

“Okay. So, is Poe the same way?”

“Yes.” That’s what I needed to know. This is not the place for me and if I’ve ever wanted a sign to prove that, tonight has shown me just that.

I sit on the bed again, not sure what my next step should be but absolutely sure on my destination. Away from fucking here.

“Why did you come to Uprising?”

“To find my father.” I say it like it should’ve been obvious by now.

“No, what drove you here?” I’m still not getting what he wants me to say. “Tyra. What made you leave your old house and come here to find him? You’ve got too much shit here,” he points at my bags while he continues his interrogation, “there’s no way you’re just in town to meet him. You’re running from something. What is it?” There it is. The million-dollar question that I’ve yet to share with anyone, not even the police.

I ponder my options a few minutes before I respond. He lets me fidget and squirm through my thought process until I’m ready to talk. I should thank him for his patience, but I won’t. “One of my mother’s fuck toys found out I was a Kings’ daughter and came for me in the night.” He doesn’t move another step, pausing his pacing while he listens. “He attacked me while I was in bed. Had plans to drag me back to his club so they could send a message to you guys.” It’s as if I can see the wheels start spinning in that head of his.

“Do you know what his name was or if he was wearing a cut?”

“He went by Mad Dog Lenny and I know I saw him in one once, but I didn’t pay any attention to detail.” Focusing on specifics that don’t matter at the time is something I’ve been working on. I’m starting to learn that those little facts might matter later.

“You from northern Alabama?” I nod, not completely surprised he was able to figure that out with just a simple name.

  “Yeah.”

“I know who that fucker is. We have a truce with that club, so I find it real fucking entertaining that he was planning to do that.”

“I’m glad you can find entertainment in me being attacked.” He moves to sit on the end of the bed, making sure to look directly at me.

“Please. You’re fucking here, aren’t you? You obviously put him in his place and got the hell out of there.”

  “I did.”

“So… yeah. I find it fucking hilarious that he tried and was shut down. Makes me respect you more than you’ll ever know.” It’s a nice compliment and to be honest, I love that he didn’t rush to me to comfort me or show any pity after hearing my story. If anything, he looks intrigued.

“We’ll have to pay his prez a visit and see if he’s aware that he has some pawns trying to make a play.” He’s mid-sentence when he stands and unzips his pants. By the end of his sentence they’re past his knees and he’s kicking them off.

  “What are you doing?”

“I’m staying the night.” He pulls his t-shirt off by grabbing the back of it with one hand and sliding it over his head, not really losing eye contact with me in the process. And the mood just shifted in the room like the switch of a light. “As you know… I sleep naked.”

“I actually didn’t know that.” The one time we slept together, there wasn’t much sleeping going on, so I’m not sure what makes him think I’d know that.

“Well, now you do.” He makes himself at home, pulling the sheets back and slipping into bed beside me. I’m still sitting on top of the bedspread, wondering how we so quickly got to this point of familiarity when he reaches up and turns off the lamp on that side of the bed.

“You can sleep naked too.” I’m sliding under the covers myself when he starts to tease me.

“Oh, can I? I’m sure you’d like that.”

“I do prefer it that way, but we can do it with your clothes on too.” He pulls me against his chest and I fall into the little spoon position lying next to a fork. His invite for sex has everything to do with what’s poking me in he back.

“What’s this?” I reach around and grip him, beating him at his little game of torment by grinding back against him as well.

“It’s my cock.” His answer is so direct that I bust out laughing so hard that I have to sit up to get some air. “You know you could really give a guy a complex with all this fucking laughing.” He’s referring to this morning and that makes me laugh even harder.

When I finally stop my god-awful belly laughs, I lie back in his arms again. He’s smiling at me and giving me that dreaded sense of comfort all over again. “I’m glad you can still have a sense of humor.” He slides his hand over my cheek and leans in to kiss me. Our connection is still there no matter how mad he was at me and no matter how dangerous I know he is now. I pull away from his embrace the second my mind starts taking over.

“So, what am I going to do about the Kings… and the stuff that happened tonight?”

“Nothing. You’re going to allow Poe to take you under his wing and never say a word to anyone about what you saw tonight or about anything you hear in the future. It’s called being a club brat and there’s a code of morals to it. Club business is club business. We don’t leak a fucking word to anyone.”

“And what’s Poe going to think about this?” I point between his chest and mine and he raises his eyebrow.

“He’s gonna want to kick my fucking ass.” Just hearing that Ruin thinks Poe will be protective of me makes me feel halfway wanted. That’s sadly something I haven’t felt in a long, long time. “But I can handle Poe. He loves me. Poe’s like a second father to me.” I
t’s hard not to be jealous when my father has been there for Ruin like I’ve always wanted for myself. I don’t want to be the girl with ‘daddy issues’, but damn that’s a tough pill to take and something I have to thank my mother for. Thanks Trina Jennings… you freaking suck.

  Chapter Thirteen

  Ruin

I think I’ve made the right decision in trusting Tyra. Finding out she’s Poe’s daughter changed everything, and I understand why she did what she did. Maybe one day the two of us will be able to laugh about all of this without having that edge of concern for the consequences we haven’t yet faced.

It’s a fine line to walk between doing what Chaos would want me to do and doing what Poe should want me to do. Chaos would want me to eliminate any threat to the club, but then again, he does have a heart deep down that if he knew the entire story, he might come around and trust Tyra too. Poe would probably want the exact same thing Chaos does because that’s how they roll… always have. But he should want me to protect his daughter and make sure she knows her place in all of this, allowing me to keep her quiet and safe at the same time.

She’s had her eyes closed for a few minutes, but my dick is hard having her this close to me. This may have me living up to my reputation a bit too much, but I can’t be this close to her without getting even closer.

I roll her onto her back and kiss my way down her body. She watches me while I look into her eyes and bite at her t-shirt, trying to lift it out of my way. I want to taste every inch of her.

She’s an easy handful, but I already knew that. The urge to grab her ass is too much temptation, so I’m side-tracked on my way to pull her pants down. She shifts and shimmies, allowing me to slide both her pants and panties off with no resistance.

“I want to taste you.” She opens her legs and I do exactly that.

I love finding her pleasure spots and make it my mission to make her scream a few times before I change positions. We both like to fuck rough and neither of us seem to give a shit about anyone in another room hearing us, so it makes for one hell of a time.

I don’t record any of it this time. I’m not sure why it never even crossed my mind, but it didn’t. She snuggles in next to me and before I know it, we’re both out.

It takes me a few seconds to realize what’s happening, but there’s no mistaking the sound of the door clicking closed or the silhouette in the room standing over the bed.

I wait until he’s close enough to kick before I make a move, but this fucker blocks my foot from making contact and takes off running out the door. Tyra screams and of course, I’m following his ass down the hall and into the stairwell without a second thought about being naked as fuck. “Motherfucker.”

We’re on the second floor before I send him on his ass with a kick to the middle of his back. He tumbles down the stairs, slamming face first into the wall at the bottom. He’s knocked out cold when I get to him, so I yank his hood back to see his fucking face.

It sends me spiraling into insanity when I realize who it is and there’s no stopping me from killing this guy. Mad Dog Lenny. He hasn’t learned his lesson yet… well, I’m gonna fuckin’ teach him tonight.

I lunge straight for his throat and put him in a chokehold, sliding behind him to get a better hold. It’s like it’s in my blood to kill this motherfucker, because I keep squeezing like my own life depends on it. “This is for Tyra, you sick fuck.”

He comes to and starts to claw at my arms, even half ass slams me back against the wall in an attempt to get a break in the pressure, but I don’t give up. I’m fucking relentless.

He takes his last breath and I sit us down under the steps, holding him in place a little longer just for good measure. When I know for a fact that he’s dead, I put his hood back over his head and do a quick job of making him appear like he’s just some hobo sleeping under the stairs.

I may not have been in this deep of shit in the past… but I know one thing is for sure. We have to get the fuck out of here, fast. I’m holding my dick in my hand as I run through the hall and bang on the door to room 311. She opens it immediately and climbs me like a fucking tree. With her arms wrapped around my neck and legs around my waist, I move farther into the room in a panic. “Hey, we have to fuckin’ hurry. We can react to all of this later. Right now, we’re still in a fucking mess.”

  “I called the police.”

“Shit. Fuck. What did you tell them?”

“That a strange man came into my room and you chased him.” She doesn’t get a chance to finish before I’m barking orders at her.

“Get dressed now. We’re leaving in one fucking minute.” We both rush around the room and pick up the clothes that’re scattered all over the floor. I’m completely dressed and have all of her bags draped all over me before she’s even got her shoes on.

“Let’s go. Carry them; you can put them on as you walk.” I’m walking quick and texting Chaos at the same time. I’m gonna need some interference on this one and he can make that happen quick with the police. He’s got many years of contacts built up and they do everything he says.

Me: I need you to call your contacts and call off the cop that’s headed to the hotel. Also need a clean-up crew. I’ll call you shortly with all the details.

My priority is getting Tyra the fuck away from all of this in case Lenny wasn’t alone.

Chaos: You owe me a big-time explanation.

A few seconds later I get another text from him.

Chaos: Done. I’m calling the clean-up crew now. Where do they go?

Me: Send them my current location. I’ll wait here until they arrive.

I’m still not sure there’s only one that’ll need hauled off. I’m on full alert all the way out to the parking lot and the little hairs on my neck are standing up and I’ve got a bad gut feeling… like someone’s watching.

There’s one truck parked off to the side that I can’t see into, so I’m really focused in that direction. I’m guessing if he had a get-away planned, that would be his best option. It’s what I would’ve done.

She’s crying but doing a good job of keeping up with me. I take all of her stuff to my truck, not trusting that the dick didn’t jack with her car. “Get in and drive straight to my house. Give me your keys.” I don’t take the time to let her know what I’m about to do, but I’m sure she figures it out when she sees me grab a gun out from under the seat. The rumble of my truck behind me gives me the sense that she’s going to be safe now.

I can feel the air shifting around me, like the sun is on the verge of rising soon. The last thing we need is people to start moving around while we’re trying to get rid of evidence, but we may not have a choice.

I’m about halfway to the suspicious truck when it starts up… as if whoever’s driving it will be able to drive away. I start running toward it hoping to drag the driver out by the fucking hair on his head before he has the chance to get away. I’m hauling ass as fast as I can, but I can’t quite reach the fucking door. But I can see my own fucking truck whipping around in a drift right in front of the truck I’m chasing.

It’s so fucking hard to keep it all reeled in and focused when I have no idea what the fuck she’s up to, but I know what I have to do. Luckily her tactic works, because he swerves just enough that he loses control straight into the ditch and then wraps it around a pole.

The sound of my truck idling next to me with Tyra inside of it along with the vision of the smoke pouring out of the other one is by far the best shit I’ve seen and heard in a long time. I run to open the truck door, not entirely ready to see the gory scene but thankful for it nonetheless. The cut he’s wearing solidifies that my instinct was right, and he was here for Tyra too.

Me: Go ahead and send that cop... and a wrecker. Will need an ambulance for good measure.

  Chaos: What the fuck, Son?

Me: I promise you’ll understand the reasons when I tell you.

Chaos: I better. We’re not here to clean up your fucking messes.

; Me: This is much bigger than that.

Chaos: I’m already on my way.

I knew he would be. Hell, if I were in his shoes, I would be too. I’m scanning the area to see if we’ve drawn an audience, but it’s clear from what I can tell.

One glance into my truck and I know I need to go to her. She looks so small with her shoulders deflated and sadness all over her face. “He’s dead too. Neither of them will ever come for you again.” Her cries go right through me the second I open the driver door.

“I’m so sorry.” Her words confuse me, but her actions kill me. She has her hands over her face, fucking crying hysterically and my body can’t handle that. I’m pulling her out of the truck and into my arms as quickly as I can make it happen. She wraps her legs around me and I hold her tight.

  “Why are you sorry?”

“Because I brought this to you.”

“And I’m glad as fuck that you did.” I squeeze her tight and inhale against her neck. God, she’s been a breath of fresh air in an otherwise fucked up day. “But I have no way of knowing if there were just two of them. Can you please take my truck and meet me back at my house? Make sure no one follows you and park it in the garage. I’ll be there as soon as I get stuff wrapped up here.” She nods against my neck and once I sit her back on the seat, she moves to put the truck into drive.

“I can’t believe you drove my truck like that.” That brings a little exhale of laughter out of her and a smile to my face. I’m not sure what it says about me that there’s two dead bodies within yards of me and I’m over here fucking grinning at this chick.

“Yeah. Sorry. I thought you needed some help.” That should hurt my ego… but it doesn’t. It all worked out for the best and there’s no reason to get worked up over a fucking truck when my body count is up to four in a single twenty-four-hour period. That feels a bit extreme, but I’m not even counting this guy wrapped around the pole.
